With their unique plumage markings, emperor penguins are easy to recognise, as they have large (approx. 4 cm), bright yellow spots on their ears. Caring for its offspring comes first to this, the largest species of penguin, with the parents' warming plumage the best possible protection from the Antarctic cold.
